I recently had the opportunity to sit down for a conversation with Frank and Mary Frost, filmmakers of the new movie, The Evolution of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.

As a kid, I would often read stories of my heroes. At first the heroes were athletes, and then eventually musicians. I would think, “How cool would it be if they made a movie about [so-and-so’s] life story?”

As a man, one of those heroes became the mystic priest-scientist. And that same thought, the one about the movie, lingered in the back of my mind.

How could anyone possibly do Teilhard justice?
Especially in articulating his larger cosmic vision?

Yet, I didn’t want to get my hopes up. So many times before, filmmakers just didn’t get it right…just didn’t do these people justice with their on-screen portrayal. Documentaries would even fall short of encapsulating the depth of these people whom I would read about and study with such great devotion.

In October 2023, while in Hyde Park celebrating the 100th Anniversary of The Mass on the World, I was honored to be part of the audience who screened the premiere of the Frost’s film The Evolution of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.

I, nor the audience, was disappointed one bit. A spirit of enthusiasm and excitement filled the air. It was clear the Frosts had done the work and had, like Teilhard, dug deep to express his larger vision of cosmic unity in their own way, with their unique gift of filmmaking.

You will have the view the film for yourself to see what I mean…to feel what we felt collectively as an audience, as a collective centered on a common dream. The thirteen year production of the film is, in itself, a testimony of the Frost’s commitment to Teihard’s vision. It was truly a treat to view this film.
