“A Vision of Our Future Earth: Teilhard de Chardin and Thomas Berry”
with Andrew Del Rossi, ThD
Join us on Saturday, April 20 as we celebrate our Common Home and Mother Earth. Guided by meditations from mystic scientist and priest Pierre Teilhard de Chardin and priest and “ecologian” Thomas Berry, we will spend time in nature to pray, reflect, be in silence, and share our experiences and hope for the future of our planet.
Teilhard’s radical optimism in the future is fueled by his mystical vision of a God who is becoming more conscious through humanity’s evolution. As a soldier in WWI, he witnessed humanity’s capacity for violence, yet his eyes were opened to the potential of the collective effort of humanity when focused on a goal. Berry was concerned with our destructive entrancement with technology and recognized the immense and unfathomable power of nature to be revered through sacred relationship with humanity. In order to survive the catastrophic time in which we live, Berry believes we need a shared dream. Likewise, Teilhard admonishes that we must “see or perish,” that is, we must have a vision for the future.
Through the minds and hearts of these two thinkers, how might we dream of and hope for a future driven by a more conscious relationship with the Earth? In what ways can we act locally to build communities who serve the planet?
Please dress appropriately for being outdoors. Bringing a water bottle, journal, and pen or pencil is recommended.
